The successful candidate would ideally start by February 2025. Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/Associate to work in the Device Materials Group with Professor Sohini Kar-Narayan in the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy. The role will involve the development of aerosol-jet printed microactuators. The successful candidate will help support the work of Prof. Kar-Narayan and the role will involve (i) the designand development of functional printed electronic microactuators, equipment and/or methods including developing and characterizing functional nanomaterial-based inks, electrical characterization of functional devices, design and modification of experimental setups as required; (ii) running of a number of pieces of equipment in the labs such as the aerosol jet and 3D printing suite, including offering assistance to group members as required; (iii) assisting with general laboratory management and maintenance, including management of health and safety documentation. The post-holder will be expected to work under their own initiative for most of their daily duties and also to troubleshoot and resolve any issues they encounter. Applicants should hold a PhD degree in an appropriate field such as Materials Science or be close to thesis submission. The candidate must be proficient in the use of aerosol-jet printer, 3D SLA printers, electrical probe station and scanning electron microscopy. The candidate must have great attention to detail and excellent record keeping and communication skills. Good interpersonal skills as well as the ability to communicate their work clearly will also be very important. Highly motivated candidates will have an opportunity to take an active role in the experimental design as well as expand their research skills.
