Teaching Personnel have been approached by a school in Burnley who have created a new position within their school to support children who struggle to access their education. The school is a specialist SEN provision which caters for boys and girls ages 11-16 who have complex SEMH difficulties and often display very challenging behaviours. The school attempts to provide specialist and individualised support for each pupil who attends this school and uses therapeutic measures to help resolve some of their barriers to their education. Many pupils who attend this provision have previously had a bad experience at school and have been persistently absent. Therefore, this provision has a wide and varied curriculum which can appeal to the strengths of each pupil and help them to re-engage.
As a Well-being Support Officer, you will be able to support students outside of the classroom and help to support their social and emotional needs. In turn, this will help the pupils' ability to learn and achieve.
Your duties will include:
1. Building rapport with all students identified as needing well-being support
2. Providing 1:1 pre-planned coaching sessions to promote mental well-being
3. Being the point of contact for pupils in school
4. Facilitating time out sessions and brain breaks for those who need it
5. Liaising with parents and teachers to provide support
6. Encouraging pupils when they make positive choices
7. Helping to break down barriers for their education
The school would be interested in a candidate who has previous experience supporting children who display challenging behaviours. They would also consider applications from Sports Coaches, Carers, Residential support workers, Youth Workers, and those with experience within the Prison system or the Military.
