Play and Youth services at Birmingham Children's hospital have an exciting opportunity for a JNC Qualified youth worker to join our youth team. The post holder is required to work with young people age 10 plus, with challenges relating to long-term conditions, treatments and hospitalisation.
This post is part-time, 32 hours per week. It is essential that the hours of work are flexible to meet the needs of the client group, including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holiday activity with shifts ranging from 8.00am - 8.00pm.
Main duties of the job
1. To work within the Play & Youth Services team delivering professional youth work supporting the Trust adolescent strategy and specific identified aims, outputs, and outcomes.
2. To work closely with other Youth work colleagues to develop the services for adolescents.
3. To deliver and contribute to the development of recreational and general support services for young people including all Birmingham Children's Hospital locations.
4. To provide structured support to individual adolescents referred to the Play & Youth Services identified as having specific issues.
5. To monitor, prioritise and manage an individual caseload or undertake referrals as directed by the Senior Youth Worker/Senior Play Specialist or Deputy Manager.
6. To work flexibly to provide a varied programme of activities and interests, recreational and social facilities during the day, evenings, and weekends with due regard for the needs and opinions of young people.
7. To participate as a professional member of the Play & Youth Services Department and contribute to the care of the patients of the Trust as part of the multidisciplinary team relating to their all-round cultural and diversity, social, developmental, and emotional health and well-being needs.
8. To contribute to the development of a coherent approach to Clinical Governance within the Service.
