Queen Victoria School (QVS) is an independent fully-boarding school within the Scottish Education system.
We are seeking a Spanish Teacher (Maternity cover), from February 2025 until February 2026. The Teacher of Spanish (Maternity) will be the sole teacher of the subject and will be responsible for teaching Spanish in P7-S3 and then at National 4/5 Level in S4, Higher in S5/6.
Applicants should be experienced in delivering National 5 and Higher Spanish within Scottish Education and must be registered with the GTCS (this is a statutory requirement).
This position includes a supervisory role within a boarding house, which involves 4 hours per week (one evening per week) and eight weekend day shifts across the year (14:00 – 22:00). A boarding allowance is paid for this additional role.
Duties:
1. Teaching assigned classes and ensuring good classroom management.
2. Assisting in the development of the Spanish curriculum.
3. Assessing, tracking/monitoring and reporting.
4. Presentation of pupils for National Qualifications as required.
5. Supporting young people, as part of a team, on Safeguarding and well-being matters.
6. Willingness to contribute to boarding life.
All full-time/permanent QVS Teachers are also Boarding Tutors. Part-Time and Temporary Teachers may apply to be Boarding Tutors if there is an available position. This requires one duty evening per week of 4 hours and 8 weekend days per academic year (8 hours per day). Boarding Tutors are paid an additional Boarding School Allowance.
This is a Fixed-term Appointment as a Teacher of Spanish in DCS Queen Victoria School, Dunblane. Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. The reason for this fixed period is due to a need for maternity cover. This post will therefore begin on your appointment and end 12 months after that date OR will end on 28/02/2026.
If you are a permanent MoD civil servant and are found successful for an advertised Fixed-term Appointment (FTA), you should move into the post under a Temporary Transfer (for up to a maximum of 3 years). If a Temporary Transfer cannot be agreed, then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible.

Qualifications:
1. GTCS Standard for Full Registration (or eligible to become so).
2. A teaching qualification (PGCE, PGDE or BEd) in Spanish. Qualified to teach Spanish from S1-S6.
