Join us in shaping the future of Huntingdonshire! We are seeking a dedicated professional to support our council’s aspiration of securing improvements to infrastructure and assist with the coordination and delivery of infrastructure to support the sustainable growth of Huntingdonshire.
About the role
You will play a crucial role in the production, implementation, and review of planning policies, supporting the assessment and determination of development proposals, and influencing the design of projects where infrastructure provision is required. Your work will involve collecting and analysing information, conducting research, and contributing to policy development and other studies and initiatives.
You will lead the development of a spatial understanding of infrastructure gaps and barriers to development, working with other teams internally and externally to shape delivery solutions including working with external stakeholders in the development of their infrastructure projects. Additionally, you will support the council’s engagement in the Nationally Significant Infrastructure regime, compiling information and responses, and maximizing opportunities arising from such schemes.
You will have a significant role in the creation of the Local Plan to deliver the council’s Corporate Plan ambitions, where infrastructure and associated proposals support forward-thinking economic growth. This role involves both internal and external engagement, working with a range of partners and stakeholders on matters relating to infrastructure and transport, including working with the Implementation Team. You will represent the council’s interests and seek to secure outcomes that align with the council’s strategic and local aims and objectives. You will work closely with colleagues within the Place directorate and the wider council to ensure that infrastructure makes a positive contribution to the area.
About you
We are looking for a proactive and analytical individual with a passion for policy development for sustainable growth, including infrastructure. Using your experience in planning policy, infrastructure policy, and project management, you’ll collect and analyse information, conduct research, and contribute to policy development. You should be skilled in developing a spatial understanding of infrastructure needs and barriers, and capable of working collaboratively to deliver solutions.
Strong communication and engagement skills are crucial, as you will be working with a variety of partners and stakeholders. You’ll be confident to represent the council’s interests effectively and work towards securing outcomes that align with our strategic and local objectives. Your ability to horizon scan and ensure timely provision and coordinated delivery of infrastructure will be key to your success in this role.

We are currently working on a hybrid office model with a minimum of two days a week in the office. The role will include work from home and flexi-time opportunities in order to provide a good work-life balance whilst still ensuring that teams benefit from in-person interaction. Candidates should therefore be within commutable distance of our offices in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire or able to attend meetings as required if further afield.
