About the Role: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will provide tailored support to students who struggle with emotional regulation, anxiety, trauma, or behavioural difficulties. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams, you will create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment where students feel valued and supported. SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with SEMH needs. Implement de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies to support positive engagement. Work alongside teachers to deliver structured interventions tailored to individual learning plans. Support students in developing self-confidence, coping mechanisms and emotional regulation skills. Encourage a positive, inclusive and structured learning environment. Assist in delivering a differentiated curriculum, ensuring accessibility for all learners. Monitor student progress and well-being, providing feedback to staff and parents when necessary. Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures, prioritising student welfare at all times. SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) Job Requirements: Background in healthcare, social care, or support work (e.g., care assistant, support worker, mental health worker, youth worker). Experience working with individuals with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, trauma, or challenging behaviour. Understanding of trauma-informed practice, emotional regulation techniques and positive behaviour management strategies. Strong resilience, patience and empathy to build positive relationships with students. Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (preferred but not essential). Have an updated CV ( covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps ) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one). Why Join GSL Education?
