Job Title: ASD Teaching Assistant (Secondary)\n Location: Sunderland\n Salary: £84 - £108 per day (Depending on Experience)\n Start Date: Immediate\n Contract Type: Daily Supply, Long-Term\n\nAre you passionate about supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?\n\nGSL Education is looking for a caring and dedicated ASD Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Sunderland. This role is a great opportunity to make a real difference by providing tailored academic and emotional support in a structured and supportive setting.\n\nAbout the Role:\n\nAs an ASD Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students with autism, helping them with their learning, behaviour, and emotional development. You'll assist in lessons, implement learning strategies, and work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to ensure the best outcomes for students.\n\nKey Responsibilities of an ASD Teaching Assistant (Secondary):\n\nSupport students one-to-one and in small groups, ensuring a structured learning experience.\nHelp deliver adapted learning activities to meet individual needs.\nImplement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies.\nAssist students with communication, social skills, and independence.\nUse visual aids, sensory tools, and alternative communication methods.\nMonitor progress and provide feedback to staff.\nEncourage participation in school activities and social programmes.\nWork closely with teachers, therapists, and external professionals.\nMaintain a calm, inclusive, and safe learning environment.\nFollow safeguarding policies to ensure student well-being.\nRequirements to be an ASD Teaching Assistant (Secondary):\n\nExperience working with children with ASD, ideally in a school setting.\nA Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).\nGood understanding of autism, neurodiversity, and learning needs.\nExperience using PECS, Makaton, or sensory interventions is beneficial.\nStrong behaviour management skills with a patient and proactive approach.\nAbility to build trust and rapport with students, staff, and parents.\nCommitment to inclusive education and student well-being.\nAn updated CV (covering the last ten years with no unexplained gaps).\nAn enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).\nWhat We Offer to an ASD Teaching Assistant (Secondary): \n\nCompetitive pay rates based on your experience.\nA variety of teaching opportunities in different schools.\nSupport from a dedicated consultant throughout your placement.\nThe chance to work in schools that value quality teaching.\nSafeguarding Commitment\n\nThis role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
