The successful applicant will study for a Certificate of Higher Education in Pharmacy Technician Practice (L4). One day a week will be dedicated towards the study component of the course where candidates can study from home completing their interactive training modules. The remaining days will be spent in the workplace on the vocational part of the training.
You will be expected to carry out some study in your own time to complete this course. In addition, competence-based workplace assessments will be carried out in the Pharmacy Department and on the wards. Once qualified, you will be able to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician.
You should want to work as part of a large team and have a keen desire to learn. This will mean developing a responsible and professional attitude to performing skilled tasks in a safe, accurate and timely manner. Your training will cover a full range of duties at St Mary’s Hospital Pharmacy, including dispensing (for outpatients, in-patients, and discharge medicines), pharmacy stores and procurement, ward top up, medicines management, patient counselling, mental health dispensing and more.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills, be flexible and be able to work under pressure. The ability to prioritise work and use own initiative is also important.
A minimum of 5 GCSE's grade C or above (4-9), or equivalent* and must include English language, Maths, Science.
Formal evidence for all qualifications i.e Certificate from awarding organisations is required at interview. Please note that a ‘Statement of results’ issued by the applicant’s school is not acceptable.
If not UK qualifications, then individuals must prove equivalence at application (at own expense). To be eligible for the apprenticeship you must hold an English qualification from the UK, Functional skills L2 is acceptable.
Salary : Band 4 Annex 21 applied £29,114 @ 70% = £20, 379 pro rata, per annum for the 1st year / £29,114 @ 75% = £21,835 pro rata, per annum for the second year (based on 2024/2025 NHS pay scale)
The post will be in accordance with Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions of employment and remuneration will be in line with Annex 21 pay uplifted to the current adult National Living Wage £22,308 pro rata per annum
