The role would be based in the Cambridge office and would involve working with clients in a variety of sectors, but with a focus on the life sciences sector. The successful candidate will provide business-oriented advice, and will act for SMEs, larger PLCs, multi-national enterprises as well as start-ups, research institutes, charities and spin outs. They will draft and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, and will provide a full range of IP and commercial and regulatory advice to clients based locally, and further afield in the wider UK sector and internationally including in the US. Responsibilities The team prides itself on working closely with clients as a trusted advisor for commercial and IP work, and in some cases as an external resource for over-flow of in-house work. In-house experience can therefore be helpful but it not a requirement. As such the ideal person will thrive on close client contact and will relish the exposure to quality client contact right from the start. Based in Cambridge, you would have the opportunity to immerse yourself in particular in the life sciences sector, working with clients at the cutting edge of scientific research, in a friendly close knit-office environment. Penningtons Manches Cooper takes an active role in organisations that support the tech and life sciences communities, both on a local level, such as One Nucleus, and internationally through its membership of international law firm networks, and has strong links to IP and tech specialists outside the UK. Engaging in business development activities will also be an important part of the role. The firm operates a hybrid agile working policy allowing employees to work from home (or another UK location) for up to 50% of their time. Essential & Desirable Criteria Excellent academics combined with proven experience in intellectual property and commercial work, will be required, and an interest and some experience in working in Life Sciences will be desirable.
