Band 5
Job overview
We have exciting and challenging opportunities for a Registered Nurse to develop their skills and autonomy working within the Discharge Lounge at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospital Teaching Trust.
The Discharge Lounge plays a crucial part in helping the hospital flow by creating acute beds. It is a designated area for patients who are waiting for their medication and/or transport when they are medically stable to leave the hospital environment to their planned discharge destination.
If you feel this role is for you, we look forward to receiving your application. If you would like an informal visit, please contact us and arrange a time.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Band 5 in the Discharge Lounge plays an important part in promoting hospital staff in all areas to transfer those patients who meet the criteria to be transferred to the lounge. The Band 5 is expected to support any ward areas where necessary to assist the patient’s transfer to the lounge. This includes transferring patients who need a last dose of intravenous antibiotics, dressings, checking blood glucose if appropriate, and administration of essential medication.
The Band 5 role also includes checking discharge medication with the patients, ensuring all nutritional needs are met during their stay, and ensuring that their discharge is safe.
As a Staff Nurse working on the unit, you will be a valued member of the team, providing high-quality care to patients prior to discharge in a professional, compassionate, and competent manner. You will be able to contribute ideas and support clinical initiatives in order to provide evidence-based patient care.
The Unit is actively committed to looking at ways to improve patient experience and patient flow, ensuring we create an environment where patients feel safe, cared for, and confident in the treatment they receive.
