Job responsibilities: 1. Communication: Use advanced communications skills, to inform patients, cares and colleagues using written and electronic information where needed. To ensure effective communication between the Dermatology service and other departments is maintained to promote the dissemination of information, knowledge and good practice. Analytical and judgemental: Assist in ensuring the appropriate statistical information is collated to assist with workload modelling. 3. Planning and organisational Skills: Ensures accurate documentation of patient interactions are maintained. Assist in the development of relevant patient & professional documentation within the clinical speciality. 4. Clinical Duties: To work with colleagues to assess, monitor and evaluate treatment efficacy and manage the treatment pathway for patients with a skin condition/skin cancer. To demonstrate advanced knowledge and skill beyond that associated with traditional nursing roles, including the integration of research evidence into practice by expert clinical reasoning and decision-making. To support the Skin Analytics surgical pathway To work with the consultants, the surgical nurse and the waiting list officer to ensure patients on the Skin Analytics pathway receive the necessary information for them to proceed directly to surgery To assist with the pre-surgery information/assessment telephone clinic. To manage a caseload of patients with support from colleagues To interpret and act upon clinical, laboratory and radiology data. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable. To support patients and their carers to achieve goals to improve their well-being, considering individual needs in the context of equality and diversity. Act at all times within the policies, procedures and guidelines set out by the Trust, the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code, and other professional guidelines and policies. To make independent clinical decisions and initiate investigations. To demonstrate skills essential for the immediate assessment and management of patients including, where appropriate, for the role advanced patient assessment/examination. To ensure that appropriate, consistent information is provided to patients and relatives. Implement into clinical practice the recommendations from NICE regarding referral, treatment guidance and therapeutics. To use excellent prioritising and time management skills to meet the unpredictable and conflicting needs of the service. 5. Governance: Assists the senior nursing team in initiating, facilitating, supporting and evaluating change initiatives. Undertakes audit and evaluation of practice within own area of practice. Assists in the implementation of strategies/plans for the service. Assists in the development and implementation of Trust-wide policies, clinical guidelines and protocols. Assists in the departmental audit program and evaluation of practice. 7. Leadership and management: Prioritises own workload and manages time effectively, when working alone or in collaboration with others. Operates autonomously at an advanced level of clinical practice. Demonstrates professional leadership behaviours acting as a positive role model for other staff. Identify learning needs, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of education to meet identified need. Participate in the education of pre and post registered nurses, medical staff, AHPs, patients and carers and participate in curriculum development where appropriate. Ensure own compliance, and compliance of others, in mandatory training and NMC revalidation requirements. 9. Research & Development: Develops and maintains own professional knowledge and skills through lifelong learning. Uses reflection to identify and prioritise areas for self-development. Exercises professional accountability and adheres to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. Develops and annually reviews, in conjunction with the Senior CNS, a personal professional development plan. Working with the dermatology team look at opportunities to further develop the skin cancer service.
