JOB PURPOSE
We are looking for a Packaging Development Manager to join our dynamic New Product Development (NPD) team. Reporting to the Head of NPD, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of fragrance packaging development, ensuring that all packaging elements are technically sound, aesthetically appealing, and fit for purpose. You will work in advisory capacity with the NPD Project Managers and closely with Suppliers, and Cross-Functional Teams to drive packaging innovation, reliability and excellence.
As a growing company the role will involve fast-paced development of fragrance products, including technical design and delivery of full packaging solutions (primary, secondary), artwork consultation, and validation of production, all the way to successful delivery.
This is a full-time position, located in North Watford (Greater London), UK and it requires working 4 days from the office and one from home.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Packaging Development: Lead the design, testing, and development of packaging for new and existing fragrance products, glass bottle, pumps, liners, cartons, creation of pallet plans.
* Technical Validation: Ensure all packaging components meet functional, aesthetic, and regulatory standards, including compatibility with fragrances.
* Supplier Liaison: Collaborate with external suppliers and manufacturers to source and validate packaging materials, ensuring they meet required specifications and quality standards.
* Testing & Compliance: Conduct performance testing, stability trials/transit tests, and material compatibility checks to verify packaging suitability.
* Sustainability Initiatives: Develop and implement innovative and eco-friendly packaging solutions in line with the company’s sustainability goals.
* Process Improvement: Continuously review and optimize packaging processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
* Documentation & Specification Management: Maintain accurate technical documentation, including detailed packaging specifications, supplier approvals, and test reports.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal departments such as Design, Procurement, Marketing, and Quality Assurance to align packaging solutions with brand vision and commercial objectives.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
* Proven experience in packaging development within the fragrance, cosmetics, or beauty industry is highly desirable.
* Ability to lead packaging projects, manage multiple timelines, and drive innovation.
* Strong understanding of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and global regulatory requirements.
* A proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical and operational challenges.
* A meticulous eye for design, quality, and technical specifications.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills to liaise effectively with internal teams and external suppliers.
* Awareness of eco-friendly materials and packaging innovations.
