Mechanical Field Service Engineer - The Role: The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for servicing equipment sold by V L Test Systems to customers located throughout the UK. The Service engineer is based from home and is expected to travel throughout their region for the majority of their working time, but will be expected to be flexible and work anywhere within the UK. There will be overnight stays where needed. The role involves inspecting, cleaning, servicing, calibrating and testing the equipment at the customer site. The Service Engineer will also be expected to attend breakdowns, to fault find and repair equipment and advise the customer and service office of any potential issues. At all times a Service Engineer will follow company policies and processes and project V L Test Systems as a first-class professional company. They will also work with other V L Test System colleagues to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the company. Key tasks & responsibilities: This role requires a clear understanding and adherence to health and safety rules. The customer sites can be building sites, busy garages and vehicle maintenance workshops. All of these can be hazardous and the Service engineer is required to follow method statements and complete a dynamic risk assessment to ensure they are not involved with or cause people any harm. Primary accountability is to ensure that customers who have purchased equipment from V L Test Systems are satisfied by having limited equipment down time. This role requires engineering activities to be clearly documented at each stage. This includes (but is not limited to): Work with other V L Test System colleagues to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the company. Liaise with the customer regarding the activities that are required to complete the Service, Calibration or Breakdown. Liaise with the Service Administrators regarding any problems that may stop or slow down the Service. Reviewing schedules and maximising on site attendance, whilst minimising travel time. Ensuring they have the correct stock, equipment, tools, documentation and information to complete potential Services. Follow the correct Method Statements for Inspection, Cleaning, Removal, Service, Calibration and Fault Finding of equipment. Complete the required documentation and certificates at the correct time and place. Advise the Engineering Manager or Service Supervisor or Service Administrator if there are any potential issues with the Service. From time to time assist with installation and commissioning activities. Actively participate in meetings, providing information on the workload and suggestions to improve performance. Train customers to the full usage of their equipment. Report of any safety issues or poorly cleaned / maintained sites send photo's back to the company office. Actively engage in own development and training. Mechanical Field Service Engineer - Qualifications, Experience & Profile: The successful applicant will need to prove experience and knowledge, or the willingness to learn, in the field of Commercial Vehicle Testing and DVSA Test procedures Previous experience in an engineering service, calibration, Service or commissioning role. Previous experience within the Commercial Vehicle sector preferred. Numerate and able to communicate in English (both verbally and written) Experience of using Microsoft Office Motivated & dynamic Presentable Excellent timekeeping Ability to liaise with Directors and Workshop staff alike. A clean driving licence preferred Flexible with their working hours Note: There will be a probationary period of six months, during which the Service Engineer will be trained by supporting the Service & Installations teams with various V L Test Systems equipment.
