We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to join our Central and West Lancashire Specialist Perinatal Community Mental Health Team. This post requires travel throughout the Central and West Lancashire area.
Main duties of the job
You will join other psychological staff who are all based in the team and you will be supervised by a Clinical Psychologist. You will contribute to the psychological care of service users under the care of the perinatal service. Tasks will include carrying out psychological assessment and interventions (individual and group) under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, assisting in clinically related administration, conducting audits and collection of statistics related to departmental research projects, training and project work. The post will require liaison and joint working with multidisciplinary colleagues and agencies. The role is busy, varied and interesting.
You will receive professional and clinical supervision from senior clinical psychology colleagues, and there are lots of peer support and development and training opportunities.

Person Specification
Education
* The Graduate Basis for Registration (further to completion of an honours degree in psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society, or, in the case of courses that are not accredited or where the first degree is not in psychology, by completion of the Society's Qualifying examination, or completion of a Society accredited Conversion Course).
* Further education or research in relevant area of psychology e.g. working with women, perinatal mental health.
Knowledge
* Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively in both oral and written formats, and in environments which are highly emotive and stressful.
* Commitment and ability to work with clients where there may be significant clinical, service, cultural and system barriers to engagement.
* Ability to work independently and using own initiative on a day-to-day basis.
Experience
* Experience of working with clients with complex and enduring needs.
* Experience of / or demonstrable interest in working with parents and families in the perinatal period.
* Experience of / or demonstrable interest in the application of theory to practice e.g. the application of attachment theory.
