Job Summary The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will design product solutions which meet the specific technical requirements identified by the Engineering team, in conjunction with our CTO, industrial design expert, and customer representatives. All products must be designed for ease of volume manufacture to ensure high quality and product reliability whilst delivering value for money. The successful applicant will also play a crucial role in ensuring successful New Product Introduction to our manufacturing department, working alongside the Electronics and Production Engineering teams to develop product enclosures and testing jigs. After launch, they would support existing products throughout their lifecycle, ensuring continuing manufacturability and standards compliance in the face of design change requirements, component obsolescence, and changing industry standards. They would also be involved in value engineering released products if significant cost improvements become realisable via component, material, or manufacturing process changes. The ideal candidate would offer at least 5 years’ experience of working in an industrial product development environment and have a strong knowledge of Autodesk tools such as Inventor. Key Responsibilities Liaising with customer technical teams and our CTO to establish clearly defined product requirements Creation of new product concepts, detailed product designs and prototypes, ensuring all aspects meet product compliance requirements Producing, reviewing and iterating 3D designs and modelling using CAD software (Autodesk Inventor) Producing engineering documents and reports in line with project management and contract requirements Generating bills of materials as part of a design delivery package Assisting other departments in delivering new product compliance and manufacturing tools Providing full lifecycle support of released product designs, including obsolescence and post-design change management Ensure design for manufacturability, including ongoing cost reduction initiatives Having oversight of and managing the product design data repository and associated libraries Essential Qualifications Mechanical Engineering or related degree Excellent 3D CAD skills (ideally Autodesk Inventor) 5 Years in an industrial product development environment, including working with external customers and responding to design reviews and change requests Experience of developing products to meet external certifications (e.g. EMC and safety standards) Ability to work well individually as well as part of a team, including taking part in peer and client review meetings of proposed designs Experience of working to industry design standards Proactivity in making decisions and, occasionally, leading effectively Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) Desirable Extras An understanding and appreciation of industrial product design principles and aesthetics Knowledge or experience of Adobe Illustrator, Coreldraw or similar vector graphics package Excellent time management, including the ability to prioritise conflicting tasks appropriately Interest in or experience working with video or lighting products for live entertainment
