Power Electronics Design Engineer Warwickshire, UK
Salary: £60-75k (flexible) + bonus + benefits
Working Arrangement: Hybrid working: Leamington Spa.
This role requires experience in power electronics design as well as PCB layout. Engineers should be able to take products through the design lifecycle to validated prototype, which includes layout of PCBs.
Working in a customer-centric organization, you will be involved with taking power electronics designs from concept to optimized prototypes, typically for e-mobility/electric vehicle applications, but could also include clean energy applications.
Note: E-mobility/electric vehicle applications could include automotive, aerospace, marine, defense, and more.
The role could suit an engineer with at least 8 years of relevant industry experience. Candidates should have:
* Strong communication skills (used to working directly with customers)
* Excellent track record in the design of power electronics (power inverters, AC/DC or DC/DC converters, or switch mode power supplies (SMPS)) for e-mobility applications or similar
* Experience in designing digital and mixed signal control and interface circuit design
* Experience in PCB layout using tools such as Altium
* Experience in inverters/converters for vehicle electrification, motor control, or similar
In this role, you will be involved with taking customer projects (electric vehicle propulsion/motor control modules) from concept to prototype. This means being able to develop systems from scratch, bringing solutions up through hardware integration and lab testing to form validated prototypes ready for customer handover.
The company is involved with designing electric drivetrain systems for e-mobility and clean energy applications (e.g., automotive electric vehicles). Those aligned to similar applications (e.g., variable speed drives, DC-AC traction motors, PMSM control, DC-DC converters, OBC, etc.) would be beneficial.
Required Experience/Skills:
* Excellent academic background (degree/master’s degree in electrical or electronic engineering)
* Strong communication skills (used to working directly with customers)
* Experience in leading projects and technically leading
* Excellent track record in the design of power electronics (power inverters, AC/DC or DC/DC converters, or switch mode power supplies (SMPS)) for e-mobility applications (automotive/marine electric vehicles) or similar
* Experience in designing digital and mixed signal control and interface circuit design
* Experience in PCB layout using tools such as Altium
* Experience in inverters/SMPS for vehicle electrification, motor control, or similar (automotive, aerospace, marine, etc.)
* Good practical engineering aptitude including the development of power electronics hardware in a lab, rig, and vehicle environment for demanding applications
* Able to work in a fast-paced, customer-centric environment
Beneficial:
* Development of systems in the simulation environment, HiL systems, etc.
* Experience in thermal management/cooling of power electronics systems
* Training in the safe use of high power, high voltage test equipment up to 1MW and 800 Vdc
This Principal Power Electronics Design Engineer role is commutable from Birmingham, Redditch, Solihull, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Daventry, Rugby, Coventry, and Lutterworth.
