Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for an Engineering Technician on a permanent basis, UK-wide.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for assisting engineers in the delivery of all aspects of the client's engineering activities. The role of an Engineering Technician is a development role, and appointees to these positions are expected to work towards the position of an engineer with a specialism in one of the key areas of company operations, including HV & LV Electrical Installation, Commissioning, Maintenance & Repair for the Distribution & Transmission network. This work is UK-wide; the successful candidate must be willing to travel and stay away on a regular basis.
Key Accountabilities
1. Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and testing of High Voltage equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
2. Act as LV Authorised Person under VPEL LV SSoW.
3. Assist experienced design engineers, commissioning engineers, and senior authorised persons in the execution of their duties.
4. Conduct inspections and test activities under guidance of experienced engineers.
5. Strictly adhere to safety protocols and regulations, always prioritising the safety of yourself and your colleagues.
6. Demonstrate an understanding of HV equipment, systems, and components, and apply this knowledge to ensure the highest quality of work.
7. Maintain accurate records of assembly, installation, maintenance, and testing activities, including relevant test results and documentation of any modifications made to HV systems.
8. Stay informed about industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to high-voltage equipment and systems, ensuring that all work complies with these standards.
9. Provide standby cover as required.
Skills
1. Possess a minimum of NVQ Level 2 qualification or its equivalent.
2. Demonstrate a successful track record of working with distribution transformers, switchgear, substation earthing systems, and battery tripping units in high-voltage applications.
3. Prioritise safety in all aspects of work, with knowledge of electrical safety regulations and best practices.
4. Possess experience working on leading Switchgear and Transformer manufacturers HV Switchgear product ranges, including but not limited to: Lucy Electric, Schneider Electric, Brush, Siemens, GE, HSS, etc.
5. Experience in HV inspections and maintenance of DNO, IDNO, and private distribution network substations and associated equipment.
6. Experience in basic protection testing is desirable.
7. Experience in the installation of HV switchgear and transformers for DNO, IDNO, and private networks is desirable.
8. Show an understanding of High Voltage Safety Rules.
