The Surgery Directorate are looking for an enthusiastic Operational Manager to join the team to manage the Surgery Secretariat.
This role is crucial to the operational running of the Directorate and as such the successful candidate will need to have experience of working in a leadership role within the NHS .
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who can balance conflicting priorities and undertake project work across the Directorate. Having experience in managing administration staff, budgets and targets will be essential.
As a key part of the management team, you will be responsible for providing leadership across the secretariat. In return you will be supported to develop your skills and gain valuable management experience.
Base Location: Cross site working at Bournemouth and Poole

To manage and lead all the admin and clerical staff in the Surgery Directorate: BESS, Colorectal, UGI, Urology and Vascular teams.
Working across all UHD sites to ensure correct levels of staffing are maintained and reviewed regularly.

There is a planned move for this service anticipated date unknown, when thisrole and base of work will relocate to Poolesite with cross site working. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder’s home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.

As part of the team create a culture of organisational development and learning within the Secretariat providing expert advice and support for staff based on local and national best practice, legislation, guidance and recommendations, designed to meet the objectives of the trust.
Lead configuration for all directorate admin staff.
Manage all recruitment.
To support and promote the development of team leaders.
Manage all leave and make arrangements for cover as required.
To support the development of effective team based working using a variety of coaching, mentoring and team development tools.
Ensure annual appraisals carried out and all other HR reviews as mandated by the Trust.
Encourage, support and manage all surgical secretaries and support staff.
Assessing and implementing new technology, systems and ensuring adherence to all Trust Policies.
Address and support transformation across both sites with a view to retaining staff and ensuring best transition.
Ensure adequate provision of working spaces, equipment and allow for agile working where appropriate.
Manage the budget with monthly scrutiny for areas of improvement or slippage and address accordingly.
Work closely with HR on all recruitment and staffing issues and concerns.
Encouraging and supporting personal development.
Ensure all mandatory and required training carried out in a timely manner.
Work closely with the operational service leads to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
