Chef Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and creative Chef to join our team at Rhodes Wood Hospital. As a key member of the kitchen staff, you will work 37.5 hours per week preparing daily meals for service users, staff, and visitors.
This is an exciting opportunity to showcase your culinary skills and creativity in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for planning, preparing, and cooking meals to a consistently high standard, taking into account special requests and dietary requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
* Maintain good food storage procedures and stock rotation according to established protocols.
* Prepare, plan, and cook meals to a high standard, considering special requests and dietary needs.
* Serve food and beverages to service users, staff, and visitors with professionalism and courtesy.
* Prepare foods for conferences and banquets.
* Participate in food costings through effective cost control procedures.
* Adhere to 'Safer Food Better Business' standards and record-keeping.
* Comply with Food Hygiene Regulations and other safety procedures at all times.
* Take full shift responsibility for the catering operation.
* Assist the Head Chef in researching and creating new menus that meet healthy eating guidelines.
* Maintain accurate records of fridge temperatures, food temperature logs, and cleaning schedules.
Requirements:
* Be 18 years or older.
* Possess GCSE-level English or equivalent.
* Hold City & Guilds 706/1 and 2 (or equivalent) Basic Food Preparation Cooking qualifications.
* Have basic food hygiene certification (essential).
* Hold intermediate food hygiene certification (desirable).
* Previous experience in a similar environment.
* Experience delivering services on a large scale.
* Menu planning, costing, ordering, stock control, and budgeting experience.
Work Environment:
You will be working at Rhodes Wood Hospital, a specialist Inpatient Eating Disorder service for children and young people aged 8-18 years.
The hospital is situated in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, and provides a calm and pleasurable working environment.
