Progress Teachers are working closely with a local Alternative Provision to appoint an experienced and dedicated English Teacher. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering impactful and effective English lessons to students aged 8-18 with SEMH/ASC, tailoring approaches as required to ensure maximum engagement and progress for all.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan and deliver impactful English lessons to pupils across KS2-KS4, adapting content to meet the individual needs of students with SEMH and ASC.
2. Provide a nurturing and structured classroom environment that promotes positive behaviour, engagement, and achievement.
3. Develop and contribute to personalised learning plans for students, ensuring their academic progress is tracked and celebrated.
4. Offer emotional and social support to students, building trusting relationships to encourage engagement and participation.
5. Work closely with colleagues to provide holistic support for students.
6. Collaborate with parents and external professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to each student's education and well-being.
7. Maintain detailed records of student progress and contribute to the development of their individual education plans (IEPs).
8. Manage classroom behaviour using positive strategies and de-escalation techniques.
9. Provide opportunities for students to engage in activities that build their literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills.
10. Support students in preparing for life beyond education, including further education, employment, and independent living.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
1. A degree in English, or a relevant field, with experience teaching the subject to GCSE-level.
2. QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) is highly advantageous; however, experienced non-qualified teachers will also be considered for this role.
3. Proven experience supporting students with additional needs to overcome barriers and achieve positively.
4. Excellent classroom management skills and a commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environment.
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with students, staff, and parents.
6. A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach to teaching, with a passion for supporting young people to succeed.
7. Familiarity with safeguarding and child protection protocols.
