About the Opportunity
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated candidate as a junior to early career, geoenvironmental and land quality focused Consultant in our established Waste Management & Decommissioning business focused on land quality assessment and remediation on our client's nuclear estate.
Our Waste Management & Decommissioning business has contracts in place and a growing order book that includes characterisation and remediation of both radiological and non-radiological contaminants on currently active or historical nuclear estate. We are looking to increase our team size to respond to current workload and anticipated further expansion of our business. We are interested in hearing from experienced land quality professionals with experience within the nuclear sector, and with experience of decommissioning, as well as the non-nuclear land quality sector.
We are operating under flexible working arrangements, with a mixture of office-based and home working environments. Our main office is in Harwell, Oxfordshire but with a diverse range of clients and sites, where we focus our services, across the UK.
Candidates do not need specific nuclear experience; however this is preferable. Candidates will receive training and be expected to develop to work in a nuclear estate environment.
Key responsibilities:
* Desk based studies and development of detailed site models utilising historical land quality, geotechnical, geological and hydrogeological data across legacy nuclear sites.
* Development of 3D geological and hydrogeological models.
* Planning of site investigation works, including long term monitoring, borehole aquifer protection and sealing design and design and management of long duration ground water monitoring for radiological and non-radiological contaminants.
* Site supervision of environmental, land quality investigations.
* Factual and interpretive land quality reports.
* Undertaking contamination risk assessments for radiological and non-radiological contaminants.
* Working with in house geologists and geophysicists to leverage geophysics techniques to solve land quality problems.
* Long term in-field ground water monitoring and sampling, including site works, reporting, managing of laboratory analytical chemistry and interpretation.
* BAT assessments.
* Involved in waste management studies focussed on controlled waste, with the opportunity to be involved in radiological waste studies and strategy development.
* Support of our radiological decommissioning professionals where needed.
* As part of this role you will receive training in the use of radiation screening technologies under the supervision of an RPA.
* Environmental Science, Geoscience or other relevant BSc/MSc/PhD or equivalent.
* Strong buy-in to our nuclear clients' health, safety and environment culture.
* Aptitude to manage time and priorities while working on several varied projects.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including tailoring outputs to the requirements of different stakeholders.
* Experience of undertaking site/field works, where required.
* Ability to identify and manage uncertainty and practical constraints in site characterisation and land quality assessments.
* An interest to explore and expand the use of new and emerging technologies in land quality assessments.
* The ability and focus to identify your own developmental and career goals and to take steps to achieve them, with support from your line manager.
Desirable:
* Experience of bid preparation.
* Experience of collaboration in a team to advance integrated technical solutions.
* RPA or RPS qualification.
* Understanding of non-radiological contaminant remediation approaches and supervision and validation of remediation.
* Knowledge of the nuclear waste disposal sector.
* Experience in design and supervision of remediation strategies.
* Experience in the assessment and mitigation of NAPL contamination.
