The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Barista Vocational Trainer to lead a hands-on barista and food safety course within HMP Millsike’s innovative training environment. This unique role involves training small groups of up to 4 learners, equipping them with practical barista skills and a City & Guilds Level 2 qualification, while also fostering confidence, employability, and personal growth.
Role Highlights:
As the Barista Vocational Trainer, you will:
* Deliver engaging barista and food safety sessions, covering everything from beverage preparation and machine operation to customer service and food safety compliance.
* Work closely with employers to create Release on Temporary License (ROTL) and through-the-gate opportunities, building sustainable employment pathways for learners.
* Manage an in-prison barista training setup, open during evenings and weekends, to provide learners with real-world, hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead barista and food safety sessions, covering drink preparation, customer service, and equipment use, helping learners achieve their City & Guilds Level 2 qualifications.
* Tailor sessions to diverse skill levels, providing feedback and support to promote confidence and skill growth.
* Incorporate literacy into training and encourage employability skills like communication, teamwork, and time management.
* Use restorative practices to promote responsibility, ensuring a respectful and inclusive space aligned with safety and security policies.
* Maintain records, ensure food safety compliance, and conduct regular risk assessments.
What You’ll Need:
* Minimum Level 2 in Maths and English.
* Vocational qualification in barista skills or hospitality (City & Guilds or equivalent).
* Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
* Teaching qualification (e.g., PTLLS, AET, CET) or willingness to work towards one.
* An assessor’s qualification or the commitment to work towards it.
