We are looking for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Occupational Therapy team based at Langdon Hospital, in Dawlish.
You will be joining a team of Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants and will work as part of the MDT to provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessments, to assess individual occupational needs and provide group and individual interventions to promote recovery. You will support the Band 5 to manage their caseload and will also hold a small caseload of your own which will include the more complex patients.
This Band 6 role will give you an opportunity to further develop your professional and clinical skills, lead small scale projects and includes line management responsibilities.

Main duties of the job
You will be a qualified Occupational Therapist (OT) with evidence of post-graduate courses or on-going training and development in the theory and practice of mental health occupational therapy. In addition, you will have demonstrable OT experience at Band 5.
You will be required to foster close effective working relationships with the senior leadership team and you will become an important part of the team, working to ensure that every patient receives high quality care. The role is dynamic and challenging and you will be expected to take on clinical leadership responsibilities to support the delivery of occupational therapy assessment and interventions.
A positive and open attitude to multidisciplinary working is vital as is a strong patient focus and a desire to provide excellent support to people who use our services to establish hope for the future and facilitate individuals to learn and practice skills that support their goals and discharge to community life.

Knowledge and Skills
* Comprehensive understanding of the application of the Occupational Therapy Process.
* Use of standardised /functional assessment and activity analysis.
* Clear understanding of core Occupational Therapy skills.
* Awareness of legal restraints impacting on the rehabilitation of service users of forensic mental health services.
* Good working knowledge of health legislation and current practice including CPA and risk assessment and management.
* Training and presentation skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, such as the ability to have difficult conversations.
Experience
* Experience of providing clinical supervision for qualified and/or support staff.
* Understanding of current challenges within secure mental health services, clinical governance issues, practice education and implications for Occupational Therapy.
* Application of health and safety and risk management policies.
* Awareness of the implications of long-term institutional care.
* Understanding of team dynamics and how to manage conflict.
* Demonstrable Occupational Therapy experience at Band 5, minimum 2 years.
* Application of HR management policies.
Qualifications
* Bsc Hons Degree in Occupational Therapy or Diploma from RCOT - HCPC Registration.
* Evidence of Post Graduate Courses, on-going training and development in theory and practice in mental health OT.
* IT Skills.
* APPLE or equivalent Practice Educator accreditation.
