Ashton Recruitment require a Pest Operative for our client Belfast City Council.
Position: Pest Operative
Location: Belfast
Duration: Temporary
Rate of Pay: £13.05 per hour
Hours of Work: 37 hours per week
To be responsible to the Assistant City Protection Manager, through the Pest Control Supervisor to:
1. carry out the full range of sewer baiting activities;
2. provide assistance to Pest Control Officers and other City Services staff in routine duties;
3. assist with drain testing, and
4. carry out all duties in an effective and efficient manner and in accordance with all set procedures and the specified time and quality targets.
Duties include (but not limited to):
1. To carry out a planned programme of sewer, gulleys, manholes and drain baiting, including the baiting of riverbanks, open ground and spaces as and when required.
2. To assist Pest Officers and other City Services staff with routine duties including sewer and smoke testing.
3. To carry out all pest control work on Department of Infrastructure. Water Service properties and sewage treatment plants as and when required.
4. To work with and handle acute and other poisons used within City Services - Pest Control.
5. To carry out a risk assessment before the beginning of any treatment.
6. To have an understanding of all relevant Regulations and Legislation within the remit of City Services - Pest Control.
7. To maintain records (written and electronic) relating to work carried out and to provide reports as required.
8. To participate, as required, in appropriate training programmes.
9. To drive the sewer van and to be responsible for the general upkeep and cleaning of the vehicle.
10. To ensure the safe transport of pest control materials and equipment as required.
11. To assist other council departments in the safe transportation and delivery of goods, displays and equipment as required.
12. To participate as required in student training programmes.
13. To liaise with staff from the Northern Ireland Water and other organisations as required.
14. To participate in all induction and in-service training provided by Belfast City Council and in the induction and support of all newly appointed staff and other human resource management policies and procedures, as appropriate, including, absence management, disciplinary and grievance procedure.
15. To act in accordance with the council and departmental policies and procedures including customer care, equal opportunities, health and safety, safeguarding and any pertinent legislation.
16. To undertake the duties in such a way as to enhance and protect the reputation and public profile of the council.
17. To undertake such other relevant duties as may, from time to time, be required.
Essential Criteria:
Applicants must, as at the closing date for receipt of application forms:
(a) have full, current driving licence which enables them to drive in Northern Ireland, or, have access to a form of transport which enables them to meet the requirements of the post in full
Applicants must also demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples on the application form, that they have, as at the closing date for receipt of application forms, at least one year's relevant work experience in each of the following areas:
(b) carrying out work duties whilst following appropriate health and safety procedures and having an awareness of risks associated with the job role; and
(c) dealing with members of the public.
