In this exciting role, you'll tackle various tasks across electrical, electronic, and mechanical domains, collaborating closely with undergraduates, researchers, and faculty staff.
We are currently hiring for a Senior Electrical & Electronics Engineer at the University of Bristol.
What will you be doing?
You will be expected to:
1. Design & build equipment from concepts to completion, to our clients' needs, in line with the relevant legislation and University Procedures.
2. Install equipment both electrically and mechanically as required.
3. Operating, servicing, maintenance and calibration of workshop equipment including soldering irons, hand and power tools, multimeters, PAT testers and specialist equipment.
4. Diagnose and rectify basic electrical / electronic problems to find short and long-term solutions.
5. Provide assistance and training to students & researchers in their projects or experiments.
6. Assist in defining and managing standards, procedures & risk-assessments.
7. Training and supporting other team members in any of the above domains.

8. Broad Expertise: Knowledge in electrical, analogue, and digital electronics, data acquisition, and micro-processing.
9. Regulatory Understanding: Ability to follow and apply industry standards and codes of practice.
10. IT Proficiency: Expert skills in relevant specialist software and a strong IT background to tackle complex technical challenges.
11. Exceptional Organisation: Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks efficiently, even under pressure.
12. Creative Problem-Solving: Experience in devising, reviewing, and delivering complex solutions with an innovative and proactive approach.
13. Meticulous Attention: High level of accuracy and precision in all areas of work, with a commitment to maintaining detailed and accurate outputs.
14. Extensive Expertise: In electrical, analogue, and digital electronics, data acquisition, and micro-processing and the ability to act as a technical expert in these domains.
15. Regulatory Understanding: Ability to translate regulatory requirements and industry standards into internal (UoB) standard practices, and to both implement these and train the team in their use.
16. Safety: Experience of writing Risk Assessments and Safe Operating Procedures and applying these in the workplace.
Please note that this role is internally recognised as a Level 1 Technical Specialist.
Given the nature of the role, we expect the successful candidate to work primarily on-site. However, there may be some flexibility for hybrid work arrangements.
