Assistant Construction Manager
Location: Coatbridge, Scotland
Salary: Negotiable dependant on experience plus package
Summary
An industry leading European supplier for railway electrification is looking to recruit an Assistant Construction Manager to join the business in Scotland working on a number of electrification schemes across Scotland to oversee operations on a day-to-day basis, and ensure that work is completed safely, on time and within budget and to the right quality standards.
Duties:
- Assist the Construction Manager
- Ordering of plant / materials to meet programme of works. Identifying and arranging subcontractors to undertake works.
- Liaising with the sub-contractors with regard to programme, progress, quality and health & safety.
- Monitoring work progress and compliance to specifications and standards and collate documentation and records.
- Assist CRE/CM with planning and administering engineering duties as/when required.
- Attend IDC/IDR reviews and provide constructability input into designs where required.
- Dissemination of information and ensuring client/contract requirements are met in full.
- Assist in the planning of works thoroughly to maintain a safe system of work specific to each project / contract including HSQE requirements, e.g. maintaining the Safety File, site safety inspections, accurate site records and daily site reports.
- Assist in producing all site safety documentation prior to commencing works e.g. Site Induction, Task Briefing, COSHH, Risk Assessments and ALO Plan etc.
- Assist in producing project documentation e.g. CPP, QMP, EMP & WPP and monitor compliance throughout the project lifecycle whilst reporting any updates or concerns to the Civils CRE/Project Manager.
- Encourage and promote the use of the NOTE Close Call reporting system and assist in the investigation of accidents / incidents including initiating response to any emergency.
- Client / Stakeholder liaison (including statutory bodies and third parties).
- Attend Project and Management Review Meetings.
- Knowledge and understanding of collaborative working. Implementation of collaborative projects.
- Ensure that you give a briefing to all your staff regarding the work to be carried out including the content of risk assessments, work package plans and task briefing sheets. These briefings may be delegated to other supervisors under your control as you may not always be present on a particular site however you are to ensure they carry out the briefings and that you provide them with the briefing material.
- Ensure that you and your staff receive a briefing from your COSS/SWL regarding the railway safety protection in place i.e. possession details, isolation details etc.
- Carry out site surveys of completed installations to measure / record as built information, using Synchro/Evi file system for accurate recording within projects.
- Assist to manage other site supervisors to ensure they carry out their regular site safety inspection.
- Assist the Temporary Works Co-ordinators by inspecting and overseeing all temporary works on-site to ensure compliance with safety standards and design specifications.
Candidate specification
- Experience in supervising civils/OLE projects and operatives on the projects.
- Valid PTS
- SMSTS or SSSTS competency
- Minimum 2yrs supervisory experience within a railway environment
- Computer literacy including various software programmes.
- Willingness to travel and to learn and open minded for new technologies
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and support as required
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Full driving licence and vehicle
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- The ability to stay calm and meet deadlines.
- Ability to travel to different locations as and when required.
- Open to nightshift and weekend working where required.
