Job overview
We are excited to offer a new rotational programme at a more senior level to our pharmacists at NGH in medicine through cardiology, respiratory, stroke, gastroenterology, and admissions. This will enable you to continue your development and increase your skills and knowledge across a wider portfolio with the opportunity to specialise.
Main duties of the job
1. Work within a clinical medical specialty for 6 months at a time, building relations with other staff to ensure safe and effective medicines optimisation for patients.
2. Actively participate in ward rounds and fully integrate within the speciality multidisciplinary team.
3. If available within the speciality, work in pharmacy led clinics.
4. Undertake projects or developments within the speciality, e.g., Quality Improvements, Audits, Research.
5. Develop guidelines and PGD developments within the speciality.
6. Carry out root cause analysis of medicine-related incidents and attend or present at governance meetings.
7. Undertake training of pharmacy and other healthcare professionals within the speciality.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Work with the Pharmacy Clinical Team to provide a comprehensive Pharmacy Service within designated clinical areas, including:
Medicine – Admissions, ED, Renal, Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, among others.
Speciality Pharmacy Role
1. Provide a Clinical and Specialist Pharmacist role.
2. Train pharmacy staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
3. Service development including Quality Improvement projects, preparation of guidelines.
Clinical Services
1. Provide information, advice, and guidance on the safe, effective, and economical use of medicines.
2. Optimise medicines management by reconciling drug histories and performing structured medication reviews.
3. Detect, record, and report adverse drug reactions to the MHRA and via Datix as per Trust Policy.
4. Record clinical activity and monitor the outcome of advice.
5. Monitor interventions in treatment to identify training and information needs.
6. Participate in CQUINs and QIPPs at NGH.
7. Implement countywide and local prescribing strategies within the Trust.
8. Support the expansion of EPMA within the speciality.
9. Undertake validation duties in the dispensary within NGH.
10. Supervise, check, and undertake the supply of medicines in NGH.
11. Optimise medicines through prescribing role operating within areas of competence.

Knowledge and Experience
* Post-registration clinical pharmacy experience within hospital, PCN, community including at least four specialties: Medicine, Care of the Older Person, Surgery, Paediatrics, Medicines Information, Oncology/Haematology, Aseptics.
* Good clinical knowledge.
* Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Teaching, supervising, and training staff.
* Undertaken service improvement/quality improvement projects/audits/research projects.
Education, Training and Qualifications
* BPharm or MPharm degree.
* Member of General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Achieved (or working towards) postgraduate clinical qualification.
* Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
* Practice Certificate in Independent Prescribing.
* Member of UKCPA, PCPA, BOPA or other relevant specialist body.
