PRODUCTION SHIFT MANAGER
We are recruiting for a Production Shift Manager to work for our well-established and successful manufacturing company located in Keighley, West Yorkshire.
This role would suit someone with previous experience as a Production Manager / Production Supervisor / Manufacturing Manager.
THE DUTIES OF A PRODUCTION SHIFT MANAGER - DAYS:
1. Lead by example, ensuring a safe and efficient work place is maintained at all times, reporting to your manager any issues or matters that may arise including near misses, tripping hazards etc.
2. To take full responsibility of the quality of product that is produced within the shift in line with the Companies quality systems, processes and procedures, and to ensure all quality records are maintained in line with Company Quality and BRC policies.
3. To monitor the production output of the shift against the production plan, targeting the achievement of planned volume per machine per shift. Any variances from the plan to be reported via the daily Production meeting.
4. To control and measure production wastage for each shift, particularly during changeovers and design changes, minimizing wastage wherever possible.
5. Wherever there are changeovers, to sign off the check sheets confirming that the required quality has been achieved.
6. Carry out all checks, audits, paperwork and line clearance required by the company BRC/Quality system.
7. Liaise and coordinate with support functions to progress issues concerning production planning and resource/skill allocation to ensure orders produced on time.
8. Complete and monitor IT manufacturing system, ensuring accurate information from all relevant shift personnel.
9. Inform all employees when they are able to take their breaks and ensure they only take the allotted break times, which are 3 x 20 minute breaks.
10. Be able to make appropriate decisions during nightshifts and weekends.
11. Have a proactive approach to production, identifying and proposing changes which can lead to improvements in terms of efficiency, wastage, ways of working, quality, safety, housekeeping and the production environment.
12. Manage, develop and motivate direct reporting staff, identifying training requirements.
13. Ensure good communication is given either verbally or written to all members of the shift.
14. Problem solving and trouble shooting skills are used to ensure that all team members can identify root causes and take fast effective action to resolve the problems in hand.
15. Where employees inform you that they are unable to attend work, re-allocate members of your team, depending on the priorities of the production plan. If the employee is sick, you must ensure return to work interviews are carried out and self-certification forms are completed.
16. Where appropriate or necessary, issue and record in diary informal warnings to any team members where there is clear evidence of absence, continued non-performance or attitude issues, reporting to HR and your Manager the issues. HR will communicate any matters that are of a serious nature where further steps should be taken through a formal disciplinary procedure.
17. At the end of each shift provide relevant reports on downtime, wastage and output. In addition, via the shift handover and the “communication book”, provide all required information necessary for the follow-on shift, including maintenance issues.
18. Liaise with the other Shift Managers regarding your holidays/absence, in order to ensure that all share the cover required.
19. Prior to the end of the shift check the rest room and changing areas making sure that these have been left in a clean and tidy condition.
20. Cover the operating of machines as and when required and provide support to operators throughout the shift.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCES & SKILLS:
* Minimum 2 years' experience working with a manufacturing background and supervisory level
* Excellent communication skills
THE HOURS:
You will work rotating days and nights 4 on 4 off
Days 7am-7pm, 4 off, nights 7pm-7am, 4 off
THE PAY:
You will earn an annual salary of between £34k-£38k depending on experience.
