Job Description:
The Role
As an Assistant Manager in GRCS, you will have opportunities to work on a variety of engagements for our clients covering the spectrum of services that we provide, including:
1. Assurance mapping
2. Creating annual audit plans for clients
3. Providing internal audit services on both outsourced and co-sourced contractual basis
4. Managing and directly delivering a programme of internal audit projects which includes planning, review, quality assurance and reporting
5. Working with a client’s in-house internal audit function for co-source engagements to supply specialist or additional resource needed
6. Process improvement projects
7. Risk management, governance and internal audit advisory services
8. Risk identification workshops and control reviews
9. Delivering control and risk training
10. Managing and reviewing internal control questionnaires
11. Corporate governance reviews
12. Contract compliance audits
13. Assessing effectiveness of internal audit functions, audit committees and boards
14. Working with members of other KPMG advisory teams
15. Business development
Responsibilities
1. Assisting with the management of a North of England and UK-wide portfolio of clients, maintaining relationships with senior KPMG and client staff and being responsible for the financial performance and delivery of these accounts
2. Demonstrating a detailed understanding of how current and emerging legal, regulatory, governance, risk management, auditing, accounting and financial reporting standards affect their clients
3. Understanding and assisting managers to undertake KPMG's internal risk management and client engagement management procedures including client acceptance, continuance and engagement procedures
4. Keeping up to date with all industry specific issues and circumstances which affect your clients
5. Developing internal audit strategies which address all internal audit, client service and project management issues, in accordance with the KPMG internal audit methodology
6. Delivering against those audit strategies
7. Recognising where specialists are required and involving other KPMG staff, managing their input to the client
8. Reviewing the audit evidence obtained ensuring it is sufficient in line with International Internal Audit (IIA) and PSIAS (Public Sector Internal Audit) Standards and KPMG methodology
9. Conducting meetings with clients to explain audit findings and drafting and reviewing reports
10. Reporting to managers/senior managers and partners/directors all salient points arising from assignments
11. Assisting with the production of quarterly Audit Committee papers
12. Assisting with the setting of budgets for engagements and monitoring delivery against the budget
13. Ensuring work in progress is monitored and controlled with fees being raised promptly
14. Identifying and exploiting additional fee billing possibilities
15. Planning and allocating staff resources to fulfil business requirements
16. Setting objectives with the team, and providing support and feeding back on performance
17. Providing coaching and training to KPMG staff on risk management and internal audit methodology
18. Identifying and developing new opportunities for KPMG to work with clients and targets
19. Writing tender documents and presenting at proposals
20. Assisting partners in general business development
Qualifications / Skills / Experience:
1. Qualified (IIA, CCAB, ICAEW or equivalent)
2. Strong understanding of risks, processes and controls
3. Private, public sector and/or professional services experience
4. Experience overseeing and conducting fieldwork for internal audit, external quality assessments on internal audit functions and/or risk management engagements
5. Experience of being the main or secondary client contact for engagements and dealing with day to day interactions at FC / FD level (i.e. stakeholder management)
6. Effective report writing
7. Strong project management
