Fabricator – Job Description
About this Position
This is a contract role, likely to be a rolling 6-month contract. The position will be based in and out of the workshop near Leeds, with frequent travel required to various job sites.
Job Responsibilities
Main Function of the Role:
The Fabricator will be responsible for the fabrication, welding, and assembly of transformer components, field equipment, and related infrastructure. The role involves both workshop-based and on-site fabrication, ensuring that components meet required specifications and industry standards. The Fabricator will work closely with Lead Engineers, Field Engineers, and other trades to complete work efficiently while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Main Duties:
* Carry out all fabrication and welding tasks in accordance with the company’s health & safety policies.
* Interpret and work from engineering drawings to fabricate components accurately.
* Perform Stick Welding (MMA) – Coded Welding is ideal but not essential.
* Fabricate and assemble steel structures, frames, and brackets for transformers and associated equipment.
* Conduct cutting, grinding, drilling, and shaping of materials as required.
* Perform on-site welding and fitting work during transformer refurbishment and installation projects.
* Ensure welds meet quality and strength specifications through self-inspection and testing.
* Collaborate with the team to meet project deadlines and maintain high work standards.
* Travel to various sites across the UK to complete on-site fabrication and installation.
* Maintain welding and fabrication tools and equipment to ensure efficiency and safety.
* Work in confined spaces or at height when required, following strict safety procedures.
* Keep the workshop and job sites clean and organised to ensure a safe working environment.
* Carry out any other reasonable ad-hoc duties as instructed by the Line Manager or Management Team, ensuring adequate instruction and training have been provided.
Experience Required
Qualifications & Skills:
* Proven experience as a Fabricator/Welder in an industrial or heavy engineering environment.
* Proficiency in Stick Welding (MMA) – Coded Welding is preferred but not mandatory.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
* Experience working with mild steel and structural steel fabrication.
* Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
* Knowledge of safe welding and fabrication practices, including handling hazardous materials.
* Physically fit and capable of lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces or at height.
* Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to different job sites across the UK.
* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
