Working in Housing enforcement in Bradford is not without its challenges as over 40% of our housing stock is pre 1939 and over 20% is privately rented. If you are interested in developing your skills and joining a forward-thinking team renowned for using its full range of enforcement powers to provide good accommodation for Bradford residents, then we could be the team for you.
As an EHO / Trainee EHO in Housing in Bradford you will be involved in:
* Inspecting properties and enforcement under the Housing Act 2004, Housing & Planning Act 2016, The Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation (England) Regulations 2006, Environmental Protection Act 1990, Building Act 1984 and The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015.
* Issuing Civil Penalty Notices, taking prosecutions, attending tribunals and court hearings.
* Undertaking default works and exercising warrants.
* Ensuring compliance with various housing regulations.
* Proactive enforcement.
* Bringing empty properties back into use through education, enforcement and incentives.
* Working with other Council departments and external partner agencies to ensure that standards are being met and tenants are safe in their homes.
In return we can offer you:
* Flexible working arrangements.
* A generous annual leave entitlement of up to 32 days plus Bank Holidays and a flexitime scheme.
* Car loan scheme and car allowance.
* Expert guidance and supervision from a Senior EHO and specialist Private Sector Housing Manager.
* A supportive Senior Management Team.
* Regular internal and external tailored training.
* Cycle2work scheme.
* Local government pension scheme with the opportunity for staff to make advanced, voluntary contributions (AVCs) to top up their pension.
* Preferential access to job opportunities internally prior to them being advertised externally.
For anyone looking to start or further their career as an EHO in housing, Bradford is the ideal city to experience the full remit of housing enforcement and to make a real difference to the lives of its residents.
In order to apply for the EHO post you will need:
* A recognised degree/MSc in Environmental Health or a recognised diploma in Environmental Health.
* Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB) or Registration as a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) or Registration as a Registered Environmental Health Practitioner by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
In order to apply for the Trainee EHO post you will need:
* A recognised degree in Environmental Health/MSc in Environmental Health.
As a trainee, you will have the opportunity to train with highly experienced and motivated officers and managers, experiencing the full breadth of Housing work, plus experience with colleagues in the Environmental Health Service as part of your registration requirements.
The current vacancies are within the Housing Service and in either the Housing Standards Single Occupancy Team or HMO Team, but as the post of Environmental Health Officer is a generic post, there could also be a requirement to work in the Empty Homes Team.
The Council employs Environmental Health Officers within both the Housing Service and the Environmental Health Service, and in emergencies you could be required to undertake other Environmental Health Officer duties within one of the Environmental Health teams.
