Job overview
This post offers an exciting opportunity for a doctor, from F3 onwards, who may be looking to expand paediatric knowledge, with an aim to working within Paediatrics or General practice, who wishes to work in a large District General Hospital setting, acting as member of a team providing General and acute Paediatric and Neonatal care within the Department of Paediatrics.
The post arises to work alongside the Tier 1 doctors, who are GP registrars and Foundation doctors as well as Paediatric trainees.
We are a busy, dynamic department and we value learning. We are friendly and supportive with a particularly strong track record of supporting LED doctor’s both during service as well as with longer term development.
We are able to offer some flexibility around rotas to suit the requirements of the candidates, as long as a service commitment is provided.

Main duties of the job
Integral to the responsibilities of our posts are the following objectives:

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Resident doctors will be well supported in all clinical areas with a full induction programme. Although this is a non-training post you will be allocated an Educational Supervisor.
The responsibilities of a resident doctor in Neonatology will include:
* Ensuring continuity of medical care for babies on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and transitional care.
* Undertaking routine newborn examination
* Attending high risk deliveries and performing newborn resuscitation (when deemed competent)
* Participation in the tier 1 on-call rota
The responsibilities of a resident doctor in General Paediatrics will include:
* Reviewing children referred by GPs for an urgent paediatric opinion on PAU
* Reviewing children referred by our paediatric ED department
* Medical supervision of Day Case treatments and investigations eg. Blood transfusion, food challenges, infusions
* Co-ordination of care of children admitted to HDU and the children’s ward
* Ensuring timely communication with primary care when children are discharged
* Participation in the tier 1 on-call rota
* Participation in post-take handover following a night on-call
The post holder will be encouraged and supported to develop other areas of expertise which might be a clinical service or a technical skill.

* Achieved work experience
* MBBS
* GMC
* Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice including:
* Demonstrates understanding of importance of audit, risk management & research
Experience
* Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement
* Potential to develop excellent diagnostic skills
* NHS Experience
* Extracurricular activities / achievements relevant to paediatrics
