Finding locations and ensuring they're accessible, safe and organised is a big job and the responsibility of the Locations department. Following the unprecedented success of our West Midlands training scheme last year, BBC Studios Drama Productions are looking for expressions of interests for Trainee Location Assistant opportunities on Father Brown and Silent Witness. Eligibility is a requirement of our funding and means we are able to offer paid placements. Please ensure you meet the following criteria before submitting an expression of interest: • Living and based in the West Midlands • Aged 19 years or over • Not currently in full or part time education Father Brown films in different locations around the Cotswolds area including places with little or no public transport options. It is the responsibility of successful applicants to ensure they are able to get to these locations as part of the training scheme. Silent Witness is based in Digbeth. It is the responsibility of successful applicants to ensure they are able to get to the location as part of the training scheme. Trainees will be paid (National Minimum / Living Wage or above). Food will be provided when on location. Unfortunately travel and accommodation expenses are not provided. The Role The Locations Assistant supports the Locations Manager and the production. They marshal areas and field queries and questions from the public. They prepare and distribute directions for crew travelling to location, support with parking, and are generally responsible for keeping locations tidy and well maintained. Location Assistants are often the first people to arrive on location, signposting directions and overseeing incoming traffic as the rest of the crew arrives. They can also be the last to leave, ensuring everything is tidy and ready for the crew to move on or shoot again the next day. The Locations department is a brilliant place to start your career if you enjoy being outside and speaking to members of the public. You are often the first and only person the public will speak to so a calm, easy going manner is essential. Leading on from this you may aspire to the role of Locations Manager. They are responsible for finding the location and ensuring it has the necessary access, permission and space required for a large crew and production team. Are you the right candidate? To be successful in this trainee role, you must have the following: Experience of being in public facing roles and being comfortable speaking to a wide range of people - an easy-going manner is essential Experience and examples of when you have worked as part of a team and; communicating information and taking direction from others Experience and examples of when you have worked in environments where there are conflicting priorities and problems to solve Interest in TV drama including BBC Studios content Dates If confirmed, opportunities will last 3 and 6 weeks and run from April to August 2025.
