Jestico + Whiles have a vacancy for a highly skilled and motivated Architect or Architectural Technician to join our team in London as Principal Designer (Building Regulations).
Jestico + Whiles is a friendly, design-orientated architecture and interior design practice based in Clerkenwell.
This newly created role offers a unique opportunity to shape and influence the success of offering Building Regulations Principal Designer services to our clients across a variety of exciting projects.
The ideal candidate for this role will be experienced in the evolving implications of the Building Safety Act 2022 for architects, with the ability to establish best practices for the office. Success in this role will involve developing and implementing BSA processes to ensure the practice meets its responsibilities as both Designer and Building Regulator Principal Designer across all relevant projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Advise and support project teams on Designer and Principal Designer duties under the Building Regulations for both HRB and non-HRB projects.
2. Manage, coordinate and monitor Building Regulations compliance across multiple projects.
3. Guide design teams in developing safe, compliant design solutions at all project stages (CDM knowledge).
4. Collaborate with clients, contractors, and consultants to ensure the seamless integration of building regulation compliance in the design process.
5. Work alongside our Technical Manager and Technical Working Group to establish office systems and procedures to maintain high standards of Building Regulation compliance.
6. Demonstrate a meticulous approach to managing and maintaining accurate digital records and audit trails.
Key Skills & Experience:
1. Qualified Architect or Architectural Technologist with a minimum of 10 years' experience.
2. In-depth understanding of BSA, Building Regulations, codes and legislation and their application across diverse project types and scales.
3. Excellent organisational skills with a proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
4. Proven experience leading or managing design development, ensuring Building Regulations compliance.
5. Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, contractors, and the project team. Ambition to become a Registered Principal Designer with RIBA, APS, CIAT or similar professional bodies.
Desirable:
1. Previous experience in a Principal Designer or similar compliance management role within a design-led architectural practice.
2. Understanding of health & safety legislation.
3. Proficiency in Revit would be advantageous.
