Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven and experienced Gastroenterology and GI Oncology dietitian to join our team of 17 dietitians at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the gastroenterology and oncology dietetic service for patients requiring specialist input for gastrointestinal cancers, pancreatic disease and complex nutrition support e.g. eating disorders, functional gut disorders.
This is a 0.8wte Band 7 post.
Main duties of the job
1. Work closely with members of various multi-disciplinary teams, including gastroenterology and oncology.
2. Support the provision of parenteral nutrition as part of the Nutrition Team alongside specialists from Pharmacy and Gastroenterology.
3. Provide support for the Critical Care caseload during periods of cover.
4. Manage a Band 6 Dietitian working in the gastroenterology service.
5. Involvement in service development projects and audits.
6. Assist in planning the strategic development of the service.
7. Provide supervision for other members of staff within the dietetic department.
8. Play an active role in student supervision.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of work in compliance with the ethical code of practice set out by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
2. Manage a caseload of gastroenterology patients, assessing and managing their dietary needs.
3. Attend appropriate clinics and multidisciplinary meetings to provide expert evidence-based nutritional support and advice.
4. Work with the dietetic and multi-disciplinary team to develop and provide evidence-based dietetic service.
5. Formulate and deliver individual dietetic treatment plans based on knowledge of evidence-based practice.
6. Contribute to the development of written information for patients.
7. Communicate and liaise with the community multidisciplinary team regarding nutrition-related prescriptions.
8. Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment regimens as required.
9. Manage clinical risk within own patient caseload.
10. Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records.
Person specification
Education & Qualifications
* A recognised and appropriate post-graduate course.
Knowledge & Experience
* Previous dietetic experience in gastroenterology / GI Oncology in the acute NHS setting.
* Experience in the provision of parenteral nutrition.
* Experience in Critical Care dietetics.
* Experience in the clinical supervision of students.
* Good oral and written communication skills.
