Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. With a direct push to engage with young people who feel like news, and the BBC, might not be for them, we work in collaboration with internal departments and external partners, and facilitate events and workshops at schools around the country to help young people with their media literacy skills, giving them the confidence and tools to feel like their voice matters. Bitesize Study Support provides young people with help and advice on all aspects of secondary school life away from the curriculum, including wellbeing, timetabling, revision, studying and friendships. Next year we're launching a new guide to secondary school life, involving commissioning a significant amount of new content for the website and social media, writing articles and creating web pages about the challenges of secondary school life and how to thrive and survive. This AP role would be specifically working on the commissioned and website content for that project. Main Responsibilities You'll be a strong all-rounder, able to write, create and edit content for digital platforms. You'll have a keen interest in news and social media trends, and experience and knowledge of working in a news environment and/or background in journalism. Knowledge of the latest trends and issues affecting teenagers is important and you'll ideally have some experience of working with schools and a young audience. You'll be full of ideas and work swiftly to turn content around. You'll need to multi-task and prioritise between multiple projects, meet regular deadlines and be able to take direction and feedback from producers. Are you the right candidate? ESSENTIAL • Experience of writing clear and concise material for websites articles and briefs. • Ability to edit, and create content for digital platforms using Adobe and Photoshop • Experience of working with, or creating resources for, schools, teachers and/or education consultants. • Good understanding and knowledge of news • Effective planning and organising skills. Ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, prioritising, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities. • Experience of commissioning content and working with independent production companies. DESIRABLE • Demonstrable passion for connecting with young people. • Dealing with other BBC departments and external organisations. • Background in Journalism. • Knowledge of content commissioning process with independent companies. • Good contacts with outside agencies, celebrities, and public figures. • Ability to make complex issues fun, engaging and easy to understand. • Creative ideas for how to use young people and public figures to engage the audience. • Excellent communication skills. • Understanding of, and passion for, the BBC's core values and sound editorial judgement.
