Job Overview
An exciting opening has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our dynamic and innovative team in the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit at the Royal Gwent Hospital. Our unit prepares and supplies a wide range of aseptic products to support our specialist haematology, oncology, and neonatal units across Aneurin Bevan.
This split post offers a fantastic opportunity to work at an advanced level in both aseptic preparation services and quality assurance. The postholder will be supported by our excellent Technical Services Aseptic/QA team comprising Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Science Manufacturing Technicians, and Pharmacy Assistants.
Main duties of the job
Role
Within this role, you will be a key participant in the operational delivery of a highly specialist technical Production and Aseptics pharmacy service:
1. As an Authorised Pharmacist for the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit (PAU), you will supervise all aspects of aseptic medicines preparation in accordance with relevant local, regional, and national guidelines and regulations.
2. As a senior Quality Assurance pharmacist, you will assure the quality of all medicines prepared within the PAU, in addition to maintaining and developing the electronic Pharmaceutical Quality System in accordance with legal, regulatory, and best-practice requirements.
In conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist QA/QC, you will be responsible for providing QA services to the wider organisation, including risk assessing and advising on unlicensed medicines, and responding to reports of defective medicines and medical devices.
This role will also provide the opportunity to deputise for the Principal Pharmacist QA/QC and the Principal Pharmacist Production and Aseptic Services for periods of absence.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Degree in Pharmacy (MPharm or equivalent)
2. Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
3. Postgraduate MSc or Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
1. Postgraduate MSc or Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance (PTQA)
2. Registered as (or working towards) Quality Controller for Medical Gases Pipeline System
Experience
Essential criteria
1. Experience working in a Hospital Pharmacy Aseptic Unit / Technical Services
2. Post registration experience as clinical pharmacist and aseptic services and/or Quality Assurance pharmacist
3. Experience in training and supervision of trainees
4. Experience in delivering service improvement
Desirable criteria
1. Experience working in an MS-licensed unit
2. Leadership and management experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
1. Knowledge of principles of GMP and their practical application within the relevant legal and regulatory framework
