We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are committed to providing 5-star patient care to children and young people, to join the bank with our highly skilled Paediatric Department at Whiston Hospital.
Applicants are required to have a current NMC registration and are desired to have substantial post-registration experience.
About Us!
The Paediatric Department consists of a team of experienced and dedicated Nursing and Medical staff providing care to approximately 6000 children per year, with approximately 800 children admitted for surgical procedures.
Ward 3F provides 19 in-patient beds including our 2 bed state-of-the-art dedicated high dependency (HDU) facility.
Ward 4F provides 12 inpatient/day case surgery beds, an 8 bedded Children’s Assessment Unit (CHOBS), along with a dedicated Paediatric Phlebotomy service and Dressing Clinic.
The Hospital at Home nursing team provides an early discharge service for children and young people who do not require 24-hour medical care and completes approximately 1000 visits per year.
An Enhanced DBS Certificate, with the checking of Children’s Barred List is required for this post.
Main duties of the job
* Support and supervise unqualified members of staff including pre-registration nurses.
* Enhance clinical practice and meet the clinical governance agenda of the department.
* Have an effective working knowledge of safeguarding children and act on and escalate concerns in accordance with Trust policy.
* Develop the skills required to effectively lead a team of nurses to ensure family-focused care on a shift basis in the absence of a sister or the ward manager.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Responsible for formulating and implementing individual patient care plans.
* Participate in the holistic assessment of patients and act as ‘named nurse’ or associate for a group of patients.
* Commence and participate in research/special projects as directed by the ward manager.
* Contribute to the setting, maintaining, and monitoring of standards of care within the ward.
* Ensure all equipment is in safe working order.
* Internal rotations onto night duty and twilight shifts are required.
* Promote effective communication with all ward staff and other departments.
* Safeguard vulnerable patients in line with national and local policy.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Registered Children’s Nurse (RNC) with current NMC Registration.
* Teaching & Assessing Qualification/Training or equivalent.
* APLS Certified.
* RGN (Adult) with current NMC Registration.
* Evidence of ongoing relevant education at Master Level.
Knowledge & Experience
* Knowledge of clinical skills required to undertake the role.
* Knowledge of current professional & clinical issues.
* Knowledge of Safeguarding Children procedures.
* Post-registration experience in Paediatrics.
* Working knowledge of Child Protection/Safeguarding policies.
* Significant post-registration experience within an acute hospital setting in Paediatrics.
