SEN Pastoral Support Worker - Wigan, UK

Tradewind are seeking a dedicated and empathetic SEN Pastoral Support Worker to work within a number of Alternative Provisions within the Wigan area. You will play a crucial role in providing targeted pastoral and emotional support to students with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them to overcome barriers to learning, promote their well-being, and thrive within our school community in the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide individual and small group pastoral support to students with SEN, focusing on their emotional, social, and behavioural needs.
2. Work closely with the SENCO, pastoral team, teachers, and parents/carers to develop and implement individualised support plans.
3. Act as a key point of contact and advocate for students with SEN within the pastoral system.
4. Support students in managing their emotions, developing coping strategies, and building resilience.
5. Help students to develop positive relationships with peers and staff.
6. Implement strategies to promote positive behaviour and address any behavioural challenges in a supportive and consistent manner.
7. Facilitate social skills groups and other targeted interventions to support the well-being of SEN students.
8. Liaise with external agencies and support services as needed.
9. Maintain accurate records of interactions and support provided.
10. Contribute to the development of a positive and inclusive school culture where the needs of all students are met.
11. Participate in relevant training and professional development related to SEN and pastoral support in the UK.
12. Adhere to school policies and procedures, including safeguarding and child protection guidelines in the UK.
About You:
1. Experience working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a pastoral or support role within the UK education system or a similar setting.
2. A strong understanding of the social, emotional, and behavioural challenges that students with SEN may face.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
4. Empathy, patience, and a calm and consistent approach.
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
6. Strong problem-solving and de-escalation skills.
7. A genuine passion for promoting the well-being and inclusion of students with SEN.
8. Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
9. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable:
1. Qualifications or training in pastoral care, counselling, social work, or SEN support within the UK.
2. Experience developing and implementing pastoral support plans for students with SEN.
3. Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance related to SEN and pastoral care in UK schools.
4. Experience working with specific SEN (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs).
5. Team Teach or similar positive behaviour management training.
6. A valid DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate on the update service.
Location: Wigan, UK
Contract Type: Full Time / Part Time / Term Time (depending on the role)
Salary: £90 - £115 per day
