The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for the high-level planning and network design of the deliverables associated with these projects. It is expected that the successful applicant will support the District Head of Planning and Network Investment (HOPNI) and senior engineer by contributing to the Investment plans and designs that will deliver the District’s ED2 contract.
What you’ll be doing
This will involve:
1. Ensuring that business plans are updated in line with changing business priorities and delivery performance.
2. Taking ownership of designing and developing high-quality electrical network designs.
3. Owning the handover of designs to the delivery teams.
4. Developing accurate capital expenditure forecasts and output projections on assigned projects.
5. Creating, managing and monitoring project schedules in MS Project.
6. Driving continuous improvement by completing project and contract reviews.
7. Creating proposals and introducing changes for best project management practice.
What you’ll bring
We are looking for candidates with project management skills and an ability to devise solutions to complex problems. They will have a proven track record of designing and/or delivering engineering projects, preferably within the electricity/utility sectors.
Additionally, they will have:
1. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
2. Experience of customer management.
3. Experience of contractor management.
4. Ability to review, dispute and agree variation orders.
5. Experience of financial management.
6. Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
7. Self-motivated and able to take responsibility.
8. Ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels.
