The focus of the Test Facilities Engineer is to ensure that facility efficiency, equipment reliability, safety and regulatory requirements are met in order to deliver an industry leading service throughout Tanners Dr test facilities in Milton Keynes. This will be achieved through facility/equipment maintenance, fault finding and repair, equipment
upgrades (design/build/commission) and general site infrastructure maintenance.
Required skills and experience
• Strong technical understanding and experience of test facilities (or similar)
• Working knowledge of systems such as battery simulators, Invertor drives, motors, dynamometers, Fuel
systems, etc
• Building and test cell infrastructure including HVAC, chilled & process water systems, exhaust systems,
climatic control systems, building management systems, etc
• Experience of EV powertrain, combustion engine, battery and hybrid system test operations is desirable
but not essential
• Degree in Engineering discipline and/or extensive demonstrated experience.
• Capable of designing, documenting and interpreting drawings for electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and
hydraulic systems and the fault finding and rectification of such systems.
• Design and specify electrical, mechanical, hydraulic & pneumatic systems using first principles.
• Comfortable owning, adapting and delivering plans against fast changing requirements and tight
timescales
• Capable of extracting key actions/issues and determining required action
• Experience in the following areas is desirable: PID control knowledge/experience, PLC control systems, CAD design skills, Software knowledge, 18th Edition qualified, Communication Network Design - Ethernet, CAN, EtherCAT etc.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
You will work closely with the Project Support & Facilities team and Project Engineers to ensure timely and efficient set-up of new customer projects to deliver industry-leading service across two test facilities in Milton Keynes. Help to identify and implement improvements in equipment and operating practices to drive continuous improvement for the benefit of Intertek and our customers.
Main tasks and responsibilities include:
• Design, procure and commission electrical and mechanical systems to support testing facilities based at
Tanners Dr, Milton Keynes.
• Maintenance, repair and upgrade to general building infrastructure & systems
• Develop & maintain PPM schedules in line with manufacturers recommendations and/or engineering
judgment.
• Contribute to the planning of end-to-end delivery of CapEx projects.
• Support Test Engineering teams with the resolution of operational problems, including participation in root
cause analysis
• Produce technical reports and simplify and communicate complex issues to colleagues and management
• Identify designs to meet good practice and other specific requirements including Machinery directive, Low
Voltage Directive and EMC directive
• Contribute to department KPI data as agreed with PS&F Manager to drive a step-change in department
performance
• Manage external suppliers of equipment and services to ensure efficient operation including maintenance
and calibration activities.
