Cable Route Engineer - London, UK
Role Purpose
The Cable Route Engineer is an essential technical role within the Marine Directorate, supporting the company in planning, designing, manufacturing and installing submarine cables across the world’s oceans.
Working on turnkey supply projects, the role oversees the Cable Route Study and Marine Survey phases within the various project timelines.
Generation of the Cable Route Study (CRS) report includes performing Desk Top Study (DTS) research, Site-Visits to futurecable landings, identifying threats (natural and manmade) and evaluating risks to the cable system. This enables creation of Route Position List (RPL) to define initial route and engineering design.
During the Marine Survey operations phase, the Cable Route Engineer oversees the planning, mobilisation, and operational activities of subcontracted hydrographic survey operations, which use full- ocean depth capable vessels for most of the cable route, and smaller vessels inshore and topographic activities at cable landing locations.
The Cable Route Engineer liaises with offshore teams to ensure the quality of operations, and to receive survey data deliverables that enable the creation of post-survey RPLs, an essential output for the company's manufacturing teams to use.
The Cable Route Engineer role is a highly skilled and key role within the company’s Marine directorate, enabling all pre-manufacturing decisions to be made about cable routing, manufacturing design and installation strategy.
