Summary:
The principal fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by serving as the spiritual, educational, and managerial leader of the school. The principal is charged with the implementation of the philosophy, mission, objectives, and the overall management of the school. The principal is responsible for the professional effectiveness of the staff, the educational progress of the students, as well as the relationship within the entire school community.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
2. Acts as a witness to the Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
3. Develops a school climate reflecting Catholic identity
4. Supports and adheres to the teachings of the Catholic Church, the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees, and policies and procedures of the Archdiocese
5. Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
6. Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
7. Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
8. Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
9. Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Lead and Develop School Personnel
11. Directly supervises and assess annually all faculty and staff.
12. Guide the faculty and staff and provide servant-leadership both spiritually and academically.
13. Develop a sound program for the spiritual and academic growth of the faculty and staff through in-service, conferences, and orientation workshops.
14. Handles grievances of all faculty and staff.
15. Head the final dismissal of faculty and staff who do not perform satisfactorily.
16. Promote good communication between the faculty, staff and Board.
17. Identify needs for the hiring of personnel, oversee the search and conducts the interviews for needed personnel
Oversee Curriculum and Educational Planning
18. Oversee the evaluation and development of all curriculum and books.
19. Ensure that sound educational and academic goals are set.
20. Ensure that the school is well equipped and well supplied with teaching materials, supplies, and resources as finances allow.
21. Lead the school in all legal matters pertaining to education by staying abreast of legal requirements and trends.
22. Utilize the resources and participate appropriately with organizations such as TCCB ED and the Department of Catholic Schools, in order to keep abreast of current, major trends in education in general and Catholic education in particular.
23. Files all required paperwork with the Department of Catholic Schools and TCCB ED, including attendance records, enrollment, annual reports, accreditation reports, etc.
24. Oversee the development of the annual school calendar.
25. Oversee all achievement and standardized testing.
26. Holds regular faculty and staff meetings.
27. Attends all board meetings.
28. Lead the school in acquiring and maintaining TCCB ED Accreditation.
Interact With Students and Parents
29. Oversee the re-enrollment and enrollment drive annually and makes the final admission decision
30. Regulates and enforces discipline, both behavioral and mental.
31. Answers parents’ concerns and sets up conferences with faculty and staff.
32. Oversees and plans spiritual development by obtaining speakers and conducts mass weekly and speaks in Mass occasionally.
33. Ascertain that student records and transcripts are adequate, accurate and administered legally with the assistance of the office.
Plan and Monitor School Finances
34. Lead the School Board in preparing an annual school budget
35. Oversee budget compliance throughout the fiscal year.
36. Approve requests for purchases by the faculty and staff.
37. Oversee the collection of tuition accounts, all accounts receivables and payable
38. Shares financial information with the school’s accountant to see the school’s obligations are paid on time.
Lead Institutional Advancement
39. Develop and maintain a good public relations program with school family, local church ministries, and the general public. Looks for opportunities to promote the school in churches and mission committees and all community organizations.
40. Lead the school in the on-going process of strategic planning
41. Maintain regular communication with the constituencies of the school through newsletters, direct mail, weekly news and website.
42. Oversee the planning of long and short-term fundraising endeavors.
43. Foster good relationships with all churches in the community.
44. Oversee and develop a strategy to address the annual fund need
45. Build relationships with donors and prospective donors.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
46. Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with a commitment to ongoing formation in catechetical and spiritual leadership development.
47. Master’s degree
48. 18 credit hours in educational administration and supervision courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate for a principal.
Experience
49. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching.
50. License and Credentials
51. Reliable transportation
52. Valid driver license
53. Valid vehicle insurance

55. Develops faculty and student/parent handbooks in accordance with diocesan guidelines
56. Completes and submits all official forms required by the Archdiocesan Catholic Schools Office, TCCBED, and other public agencies
57. Implements and reviews long-range strategic planning
58. Promotes healthy staff morale and professionalism
59. Participates in professional development, including Archdiocesan principal meetings and in-services
60. Establishes and implements technology goals for the school
61. Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
62. Knowledge of instructional methods/strategies and curriculum differentiation
63. Knowledge of child and adolescent development, learning, and behavior
64. Knowledge of the content and the methods of religious education
65. Knowledge of effective assessment methods
66. Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
67. Able to work well with others in the school community
68. Able to work independently and self-motivate
