The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to make a real difference to the lives of residents and communities across Wales. As our Director of People and Culture, you will be an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team, working across Wales to deliver what matters to our residents.
We are looking for a Director of People and Culture who can deliver our agenda through their natural ability to foster strong relationships, using professional curiosity and constructive challenge, as well as having extensive experience in people and human resource management.
We have been on a journey within the People and Culture space over the last 18 months and have spent time learning and understanding ‘What Matters’ to our colleagues across the organisation, which has enabled the development of our People and Culture business plan objectives.
Who are we looking for?
To succeed in this role, you will have a genuine passion and interest in what we do as an organisation. In this role, you will need to work closely with our Executive Directors and Senior Leadership Team to ensure organisational effectiveness and efficiency. You will put particular emphasis on embedding the Wales & West Housing Group (WWHG) Way as the operating model for the management and continuous improvement of all parts of the Group and you will be responsible for ensuring behaviour reflects the Group’s values and customer-centric, inclusive culture.
You will have a demonstrable track record of business and organisational development with a focus on workforce development and staff engagement. Our culture at WWHG is important to us, and we are looking for a strong leader who will help us to constantly measure it and improve it, utilising the tools we have developed through many years of adopting a systems thinking approach. We want a senior manager with strong communication skills, who is a natural influencer with the ability to build relationships internally and with key stakeholders. With such a broad, cross-departmental role, you will be comfortable with dealing with multiple, complex issues at any one time and able to demonstrate strong leadership skills. A key attribute will be your ability and track record of delivering a people approach, by not only seeing the bigger picture, but practically getting involved where required – we expect all leaders to be ‘in the work’ in order to properly understand the right problems to solve.
What you will be doing?
Based in our head office in Cardiff, with hybrid working (minimum of 2 days in the office) and significant time spent out and about across Wales, you will bring strategic and operational leadership to the People and Culture team and support the Executive Directors in the effective planning, co-ordination, implementation and achievement of the Group’s objectives and priorities.
As Director of People and Culture, you will be responsible for leading the People Services, People Experience & Development and Systems Improvements teams and as you would expect, this role works across all departments within the Group so we would want you to get involved across the whole organisation.
The main responsibilities of the role include:
* Leading the development and implementation of the Group's approach in relation to all aspects of the People and Culture service.
* Supporting the Executive Directors to oversee the leadership and management of employees, including the People and Culture function, by designing and implementing strategies and policies that promote the WWHG Way and enhance the employee journey.
* Being an active member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), specifically responsible for People and Culture, but professionally curious across the organisation.
* Maintaining a detailed understanding of performance and assurance within the People and Culture Service Area.
* Delivery of the People and Culture business plan objectives including:
• Ensure an inclusive culture and measure and understand representation within the workforce.
• Continue the development of the people function systems, capability and technology to better serve our customers.
• Enhance our leadership development offering.
• Grow our management capability through developing a WWHG management development programme.
• Develop an employee journey roadmap for the Group, with appropriate actions to improve the employee experience.
• Continue the development of an informed and engaged workforce.
• Continuously improve the core HR operations, focusing on assurance, efficiency and employee experience.
Who are Wales & West Housing (WWH)?
We are one of the leading housing providers in Wales; providing affordable homes and services to more than 24,000 residents in over 12,500 properties across Wales. We formed a Group company in 2011, to include Cambria Maintenance Ltd. We employ over 450 staff at WWH and over 190 staff in Cambria, making us a major Welsh employer. As an organisation we adopt a systems thinking approach to the way we manage and deliver our services across the Group; it underpins the way in which we operate.
We are embracing a hybrid way of working that enables us to deliver a great service and supports a strong and connected organisational culture. Staff spend a minimum of two days a week (or an appropriate pro-rata for part timers), in the office. The remainder of the week will be determined by the needs of the role and/or the nature of the work; so you may be on site, at one of our regional bases, or working from home if suitable.
