Job Description:
Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.
Virginia Peninsula seeks faculty to teach both lectures and laboratory classes in the area of chemistry. The adjunct faculty appointment contains no guarantee of continued employment. Instruction may be during the day, evening, or weekend. This position will teach courses such as General Chemistry I and II (CHM 111/112) and Introductory Chemistry (CHM 101).
Essential functions:
1. Design and delivery of instruction for day and evening classes.
2. Responsible for student assessment and grading.
3. Maintains adequate on-campus presence.
4. Provides timely communication with students, staff and administrators of the College.
Minimum Qualifications:
5. Master’s Degree in Chemistry, or closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester credit hours in Chemistry.
6. Demonstrated teaching excellence and experience teaching general chemistry, college chemistry, and/or organic chemistry.
7. Demonstrated proficiency in using instructional technologies.
8. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
9. Ability to teach on the Hampton and/or HT campus.
Preferred Qualifications:
10. Successful community college or undergraduate teaching experience in both lecture and laboratory.
11. Additional graduate hours in chemistry.
12. Experience in chemistry curriculum development and pedagogies that support best learning practices.
13. Experience in development and/or teaching distance learning chemistry courses.
14. Demonstrated experience in facilitating the success of students from divers backgrounds.
