Purpose of the role
To jointly develop and deliver transitional education programme for students with additional support needs, using a variety of methods which will allow the students to achieve a range of educational goals and life skills.
Principal duties
1. Programme Delivery:
o Deliver learning sessions to the students, either one to one, in pairs or in a group and respond to their changing educational needs;
o Lead the staff team in the delivery of the Education Programme and plan the weekly learning for other staff to deliver;
o Support the Centre Manager to lead on education across the centres;
o Develop and adapt educational resources as required;
o Co-ordinate the development of each student’s ILP;
o Provide staff support and training both formally and informally on education matters;
o Provide input to staff inductions;
o Support student exit/transition to other services including college;
o Support the New Support & Community Access Manager with the development of a personalised learning schedule for new students;
o Liaise with the SLT’s and OT’s to maximise a student’s entry into Teens+ service;
o Support the development of the CRM database as a requirement across Teens+ services;
o Support appropriate responses to areas of risk management and compliance to the Head of Service.
2. Relationships with Stakeholders:
o Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders – colleagues in all relevant agencies; further education colleges, community education, the Department of Social Work, Care Inspectorate and other relevant professionals;
o Attend parent’s meetings;
o Attend and lead reviews in the Centre Manager's absence;
o Ensure good communication and co-operation regarding educational matters with parents/carers;
o To foster and maintain good working relationships between TEENS+, the local community and other agencies;
o Be part of an integrated management team that liaises with funders.
3. Management of Staff:
o Project Workers direct line management under the direction of the Centre Manager;
o Senior Project Worker support and guide in coordinating their role.
4. Information Systems/Administration:
o Maintain a system of educational record keeping and ensure that progress is being assessed;
o Ensure the completion of ILP paperwork;
o Complete transition/exit reports for students;
o Attend MDT meetings and report on educational matters;
o Contribute / lead on staff recruitment and interviews as required;
o Liaise with Centre Managers in relation to meetings, timetable changes; and progress checks;
o Work alongside the New Support & Community Access Manager when required with new students;
o Risk assessing / writing and support planning for staff and students.
5. Safety Procedures:
o To be familiar with the risk assessments for the students being worked with;
o Ensure that all health and safety procedures regarding students and staff are observed;
o To comply with TEENS+ specific policies and procedures;
o To comply with Capella HR Policies and Procedures;
o To draw to the attention of the Head of Service any areas of concern.
6. Other:
This descriptor is a guide for the post holder but other appropriate duties may be necessary from time to time.
