Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Annex 21)

This newly funded role involves setting up an exciting new service, working alongside respiratory physiotherapy to develop the service profile in order to plan and provide therapy to an adult upper airway caseload.
This will include working primarily with patients with chronic cough, ILO, breathing pattern disorders and associated dysphonia/dysphagia inclusive of the long covid population.

Main duties of the job
This role requires strong and effective working relationships within an MDT environment, working alongside respiratory physiotherapy, the covid recovery team and the pulmonary rehabilitation team.
The post holder will be innovative and dynamic with specialist clinical skills relating to upper airway disorders and their assessment and treatment. They will be required to take a lead role on service planning, review, quality improvement and clinical audit.
You will be based within a friendly and supportive team of Speech and Language Therapists working in Voice, ENT and Head and Neck Cancer. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to optimise patient care with access to videofluoroscopy, multiple FEES stacks and instrumental bio-feedback equipment for dysphagia rehabilitation.
There are well established links with ENT, respiratory physiotherapy and the pulmonary rehabilitation team, as well as across the wider SLT department. There are opportunities to develop advanced clinical skills and expand professional development with support from specialist colleagues.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent
* Registered member of HCPC / RCSLT
* Completion of postgraduate specialist courses and competencies, e.g. Dysphagia
* Membership of relevant CEN
Experience
* Significant experience of working with individuals within specialist caseload
* Working in a multidisciplinary setting.
* Responsibility for and supervision of Speech and Language Therapy students
* Evidence of planning, organising and delivering training to SLTs and wider MDT
* In depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions/models of working relevant to specialist caseload and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits.
* Evidence of leadership skills obtained through clinical experience.
Knowledge & Skills
* Highly specialist knowledge underpinned by current evidence-based practice
* Accurate administration and analysis of adult assessments leading to differential diagnosis
* Able to work unsupervised and independently as an active member of MDT negotiating case management
* Proposing and implementing local and national service policies and procedures
* Demonstrates understanding of wider public service policies e.g. Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Equality and Diversity etc.
* Ability to manage frequent exposure to and delivery of distressing information
* Excellent interpersonal/communication skills, including observation, listening and empathy skills.
* Experience of undertaking formal R&D activities
