We are looking for a Lead Practitioner of Science. This is an exciting opportunity to join GLT / Henley Bank High School and become an integral member of the Science Teaching team.
At Henley Bank High School, our aspiration is for all our staff and students to leave our school with practical wisdom gained through the teaching of intellectual, moral, civic and performance virtues. We are a successful secondary school based in Brockworth, extremely close to junction 11a of the M5. The school has consistently been achieving excellent academic results over the past few years with the GCSE results of 2023 being in the top 1% of results in the country, as well as the highest results for any non-selective school in Gloucestershire. We opened our Sixth Form in September 2024 and are really excited to see what the next stage in the school’s journey will be. A crucial element of the school’s vision is ensuring that we are preparing our young people for the world of tomorrow. This role plays an essential part in achieving this.

Job Description
We pride ourselves on having a team of excellent staff and as we look to September 2025 and the continued growth of our school including our first year 13 cohort, we want to continue to add to our fantastic team. We are looking for a lead practitioner to join our fantastic Science team. The successful candidate needs to be an excellent teacher with a passion for their subject and wider education, as well as having a proven track record of excellent exam results and outcomes. As well as providing expertise to the department, the successful candidate will be given a whole school remit to lead on.
Job Purpose
1. To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students and to support designated curriculum areas as appropriate.
2. To be passionate about their subject area.
3. To show enthusiasm and have the experience of leading initiatives within the department.
4. To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a Teacher/Tutor.
5. To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential.
6. To contribute to raising standards of student attainment.
7. To share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth.
8. Present regularly to SLT on their findings and next steps for their remit.
Main Responsibilities:
1. To act as a role model and an outstanding practitioner.
2. Lead on curriculum developments within the subject area and share expertise within the department.
3. Quality assure provision to ensure the highest standards.
4. Share best practice in subject meetings across the School and Greenshaw Learning Trust.
5. Lead whole staff INSET when applicable.
6. Keep up to date with new developments in Education.
7. Lead improvements on outcomes and opportunities at a departmental level.
8. Lead on whole school remit related to improving outcomes and opportunities for our students.
