Job Description Job title: Senior Credit Portfolio Risk Manager Salary: up to £70k (negotiable) Location: Hybrid with at least 1 day per week in Fleet Vargo is recruiting for an alternative lender that supports a range of SME businesses with both debt and equity finance. In this role, you will work closely with regional funding teams to support them in writing credit papers, structuring finance deals and performing due diligence on debt/equity transactions. The role will also perform a key element of the credit and risk committee and will have sanctioning level authority. Apart from the day-to-day credit & risk requirements, this role will also have a significant part to play in fund management. These requirements will include; ensuring compliance with fund rules, analysing the fund to ensure it is evenly distributed throughout the region and ensuring the is evenly distributed across industry sectors Responsibility Review and sanction credit applications, oversee governance and credit submissions 7and conduct monthly portfolio reviews. Support recovery cases and ensure pre-drawdown risk checks. Assist in deal forums to streamline funding approvals. Participate in equity fund investment committees, oversee governance and submission processes, and review portfolio valuations to ensure FCA-compliant reporting. Track and update customer risk grades, oversee periodic credit training, and share insights on SME sector performance to refine credit risk appetite. Provide risk profile insights for debt and equity funds, contribute to internal board reports, and liaise with fund teams, finance, and operations to ensure regulatory and stakeholder compliance. Knowledge, Skills & Experience Experience in SME credit assessment, including non-asset-backed lending. Background in credit risk functions or SME relationship management. Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills. Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (forecast modelling preferred).
