The Role
This role sits within our Emergency Duty Service, which works out of hours across evenings, weekends and bank holidays. This is an exciting opportunity to manage and lead a small team of social workers who deliver an essential service for the whole Council.
This is none case holding role whereby you will be managing 4.5 Social Workers, supervising the Social Workers regarding their adult safeguarding, children’s safeguarding, their mental health work and homelessness. You will also be coordinating the rota and shifts, working collaboratively with all partner agencies across Bolton and managing performance. You will also work as part of the rota if required and be an experienced AMHP.
This role sits within the portfolio of the Senior Head of Service for the Integrated Front Door, Referral & Assessment Service and Emergency Duty Service and is part of this management team. You will also have a strong relationship with Adult Services Management Team and the Adult Mental Health Services.
In 2023 we retained our overall GOOD grading from Ofsted in our ILACS.
As set out in our Bolton 2030 vision, our aim is to support people to Start Well, Live Well and Age Well and we are passionate about keeping children and young people at the heart of the work we do. We want to make sure all our children and young people have the best possible start in life, so they have every chance to succeed and be happy.
Bolton is a fantastic place to work, and our employees thrive working here. We are incredibly proud of our Bolton Family, of which you will become an integral part.

You will be motivated and enthusiastic, with excellent communication skills enabling you to build professional relationships with professionals who require advice and guidance when contacting the team out of hours. You will role model best practice to the Social Workers you manage and ensure they have the support and necessary skills to work out of hours.
You will have good knowledge and experience in safeguarding children and adults, as well as being able to make timely and safe threshold decisions out of hours. You will be an experienced AMHP being able to undertake Mental health Assessments and supervise and support those less experienced.
You will act as a champion for the EDT service across the Council and partner agencies, taking the lead in service development and improvement within the department of Children’s Social Care and Early Help, role modelling Research in Practice and undertaking high quality social work practice out of hours.
